(TERRE HAUTE) - Former University of Iowa basketball player Jake Kelly has decided to transfer to Indiana State.
The 6'6" swingman has verbally committed to join the Sycamore program after being released from his scholarship with the Hawkeyes last week.
Kelly grew up around Terre Haute and played his first two years of high school basketball in nearby Marshall, Illinois. His final two years of high school were spent at Carmel, just north of Indianapolis.
Kelly wanted to transfer closer to home following the death of his mother in a plane crash last June. He will apply for a hardship waiver from the NCAA.
If the waiver is granted, he will not have to sit out the 2009-2010 season.
