(ATLANTA, GA) - Joel Pineiro improved to 4-0 as the St. Louis Cardinals edged the Atlanta Braves 3-2.
The Redbirds jumped out to an early 2-0 lead on RBI singles from Chris Duncan in the first and Rick Ankiel in the second.
Atlanta's David Ross cut the St. Louis advantage to 2-1 with an RBI double in the second.
Ankiel would give the Cardinals some insurance in the seventh with another RBI single with Jeff Francoeur getting the run back for the Braves with a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the seventh.
Piniero allowed two runs on seven hits over six and two-thirds to get the win.
Atlanta starter Jair Jurrjens took the loss.
