(CINCINNATI, OH) - Jay Bruce hit a pair of two-run home runs as the Cincinnati Reds avoided a three-game sweep against Atlanta, beating the Braves 8-2.
Bruce's first homer off Atlanta starter Kenshin Kawakami put Cincinnati on the board in the fourth.
The Reds roughed up Kawakami for six earned runs in the fifth with Joey Votto hitting a three-run double and scoring on an RBI single from Brandon Phillips.
Phillips came home on Bruce's second home run of the game.
Micah Owings picked up his first win for Cincinnati, allowing a run on six hits over seven innings to improve to 1-2.
Kawakami falls to 1-3.
