(INDIANAPOLIS) - There will be activity at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway this weekend, but it won’t be on the famed two and-a-half-mile oval.
The speedway begins its centennial celebration with balloon races on Saturday and Sunday.
A balloon race was the first event at the speedway when it opened in 1909. Preparations for the May 24th Indianapolis 500 get underway on Tuesday with the start of rookie orientation practice.
ROP continues through Wednesday afternoon when the veterans will be allowed to begin practicing.
There are just two full days of practice scheduled before pole day on May 9th.
