(INDIANAPOLIS) - Wade Cunningham will be on the pole for this afternoon’s Freedom 100 Firestone Indy Lights Series race at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.
Cunningham grabbed the top spot with a two-lap average of 190.177 miles per hour.
It's Cunningham's second Indy pole as he started from the number-one position three years ago. Sebastian Saavedra will start on the outside of the front row with a two-lap effort of 190.023.
Both Cunningham and Saavedra qualified faster than the previous event record of 189.870 miles an hour set by Jaime Camara in 2005.
Today is also Carb Day at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.
The day gets underway with a one-hour practice session for the 33 starters in Sunday's Indianapolis 500.
The session is the final opportunity for drivers and teams to test their cars at speed before Sunday afternoon's race.
Following the practice session, the Indy Lights cars take to the track for the seventh annual Freedom 100. The day's activities also include the pit stop challenge and the Carb Day concert.
