(ST. LOUIS) - Jason LaRue’s first home run of the season put the St. Louis Cardinals up for good as the Redbirds swept their two-game series with Pittsburgh, defeating the Pirates 5-2.
LaRue's blast came off Pittsburgh starter Ross Ohlendorf and started a four-run fifth inning for the Cardinals.
Todd Wellemeyer allowed two runs on four hits over seven innings to get the win, improving to 3-and-2.
Robinzon Diaz hit a solo shot for the Pirates, who have lost five in a row. Ohlendorf took the loss to fall to 3-and-3.
