(INDIANAPOLIS) - Race car driver Vitor Meira was released from Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis on Wednesday.
Meira suffered fractures to two vertebra in his lower back in an accident with rookie Raphael Matos late in Sunday's Indianapolis 500.
Meira says he plans to stay in Indianapolis during his recovery and does not expect the injury to require surgery.
He hopes to return for the final race of the season in October at Homestead-Miami Speedway.
AJ Foyt Racing has since hired Paul Tracy to drive in Meira's place this weekend at Milwaukee.
