(INDIANAPOLIS) - The NCAA is reducing the time a player has before deciding whether they will stay in the NBA draft.
Beginning next year, an early entry candidate will have to withdraw his name from draft consideration by May 8th.
The new date is a compromise as the ACC had been pushing for a mid-April deadline.
The reason for moving up the date to withdraw from the draft is to allow college coaches to know sooner whether they were losing players and had scholarships available.
The NCAA, the NBA and the NBA Players Association had input into the decision, which could be revisited before next year's draft.
