(INDIANAPOLIS) - Practice resumed for the 2009 Indianapolis 500 with Mario Moraes turning in the top speed of the day at 222.739 miles an hour.
Moraes sits seventh on the provisional starting grid for the May 24th race.
The top five speeds on Thursday were posted by drivers who already have their cars safely in the field.
The Penske backup cars of Ryan Briscoe and Helio Castroneves were second and third on the speed chart, respectively, with Scott Dixon and Tony Kanaan coming in fourth and fifth in the cars they qualified last weekend.
Oriol Servia made his 2009 debut at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway and turned in the top speed among drivers who have yet to qualify for the race.
Servia's speed of 221.353 miles per hour was seventh overall on Thursday's speed chart.
Servia was named to his Rahal Letterman Racing ride on Wednesday.
Townsend Bell, driving a second car for KV Racing, was second quick among the non-qualified drivers at 220.938 miles per hour, good for tenth on the overall speed chart.
