(ATLANTA, GA) - One night after seeing Atlanta register an extra inning, come from behind win, the Chicago Cubs weren’t about to flirt with déjà vu.
Micah Hoffpauir blooped a pinch hit, 11th inning single that scored Derek Lee, as the Cubs beat the host Braves 3-2 in 11 innings Wednesday night.
Lee was in scoring position thanks in part to a lapse of thought from Atlanta left fielder Matt Diaz.
After Diaz made a routine catch, Lee advanced to second before Diaz was aware of the runner tagging.
Reed Johnson's single moved Lee to third before Hoffpauir's clutch game winning hit.
