(NEW YORK, NY) - Johan Santana out dueled Chris Carpenter in a battle of former CY Young Award winners as the New York Mets edged the St. Louis Cardinals 3-2.
Yadier Molina gave St. Louis the early lead with an RBI single in the first.
The Mets took command in the fourth, scoring all three of their runs off carpenter on an RBI single by Fernando Tatis and a two-run double from Nick Evans.
Joe Thurston drew the Cardinals to within a run with an RBI single in the sixth.
Carpenter gave up three runs on four hits over seven to fall to 5 and 2.
