(WASHINGTON, DC) - Jonny Gomes put Cincinnati ahead with a pinch-hit RBI double in the twelfth as the Reds got past the Washington Nationals 4-2 in extra innings.
Jay Bruce gave Cincinnati a 2-0 lead in the second with his 15th home run of the season.
That was the score when rain hit in the bottom of the ninth, causing a two-hour, ten-minute delay.
Reds closer Francisco Cordero, who started the ninth before the delay, came back and allowed RBI singles to Josh Bard and Alberto Gonzalez to suffer his first blown save in 16 attempts this season.
Jerry Hairston Jr. followed up Gomes' double with an RBI single to give the Reds some insurance.
Cincinnati goes for a three-game series sweep this afternoon in Washington.
