(SANTO DOMINGO, D.R.) - Former Chicago Cub Sammy Sosa appears ready to call it a career.
Sosa told ESPN Deportes Wednesday that he will announce his retirement soon.
He did not give a specific time or location for the official announcement.
Undeniably one of the most charismatic players of his generation, Sosa will forever be remembered for his 1998 season in which he battled Mark McGwire for the regular season home run crown.
Sosa finished with 66, four behind McGwire.
That began a string of three straight years with at least 63 home runs.
Sosa finished his career with the Texas Rangers after amassing 609 home runs.
Sosa presently serves as special ambassador for investment opportunities for the Dominican Government.
