(CHICAGO) - Jim Thome hit another for the record books.
The White Sox slugger hit his 9th home run of the season, a go-ahead shot in the 8th inning, as the White Sox beat visiting Oakland 6-2 Monday at U.S. Cellular Field.
It was the 55oth homer of Thome's career.
A.J. Pierzynski added a homer of his own, and Scott Podesdnik scored twice as Chicago won for the 10th time in their last 13 games.
The surging Sox are now 25-25 on the year, three and a half games behind Detroit in the American League Central.
