(MILWAUKEE, WI) - The St. Louis Cardinals opened their showdown with the Milwaukee Brewers with a 5-0 win in the opener of their three-game series at Miller Park.
Ryan Ludwick put the redbirds on top with a three-run homer in the first inning.
Colby Rasmus added a solo shot in the fifth and an RBI double in the sixth.
Adam Wainwright allowed seven hits over 8 1/3 innings, striking out nine to improve to 9 and 5. Yovani Gallard took the loss for Milwaukee, dropping to 8 and 6.
The Cardinals stretch their lead in the NL Central to two games over the Brewers.
