(CHICAGO, IL) - Rookie Randy Wells threw eight shutout innings as the Chicago Cubs blanked the Houston Astros 12-0.
Wells allowed six hits to improve to 7 and 4.
Alfonso Soriano hit a three-run homer, Aramis Ramirez added a solo homer and drove in two while Andres Blanco also hit a solo shot as the cubs collected 14 hits off Houston pitching.
Starter Mike Hampton allowed nine runs on eight hits in four innings of work to fall to 6 and 8.
It was not all good news for Chicago as the Cubs may be without veteran outfielder Reed Johnson for awhile.
Johnson fouled a ball off his left foot and x-rays revealed a fracture.
Johnson could miss a month or more.
