(LOS ANGELES, CA) - Manny Ramirez and Andre Ethier homered and Jason Schmidt survived a rough first inning to pick up his first win in more than two years as the Los Angeles Dodgers beat the Cincinnati Reds 7-5.
Schmidt, who was making his first major league start since shoulder surgery in June of 2007, gave up three runs in the top of the first but settled down from there, going five innings to move to 1 and 0.
The Dodgers scored four times in their half of the first to take the lead for good and Ramirez hit a two-run shot off Cincinnati starter Micah Owings in the second to give LAA 6-0 lead.
For Ramirez, it was career home run number 537 as he passed hall-of-famer Mickey Mantle for 15th place on the all-time list.
Ethier would add a solo blast in the fifth.
