(INDIANAPOLIS, IN) - The drivers in the IndyCar Series will have a new tool at their disposal for Saturday night’s Meijer 300 at Kentucky Speedway.
The series has approved the use of a "push-to-pass" button for the remaining six races of the season.
The electronic device is activated by pushing a button on the steering wheel and will give a five to 20-horsepower boost to the Honda Engines for twelve seconds.
Over the course of a race, drivers will be allowed to use the push-to-pass button 20 times.
An electronic regulator will not allow more than 240 seconds of added boost and will have a ten-second recharge blackout so that drivers cannot use the system continuously late in the race.
