(INDIANAPOLIS, IN) - The US National Swimming Championships begin today at the Indiana University Natatorium in Indianapolis.
The featured attraction at this week's meet is 14-time Olympic Gold Medalist Michael Phelps.
Phelps, who won a record eight golds at the 2008 Olympics in Beijing, will compete in four events.
He will begin on Wednesday in the 200-meter freestyle and the 200-meter butterfly.
Phelps is the world-record holder in both events.
He will compete in the 100-meter butterfly on Thursday and the 100-meter freestyle on Friday.
The swimmers are going for spots on the United States team for the world championships in Rome later this month.
