(ST. LOUIS, MO) - Adam Wainwright picked up his major league-leading 16th win of the season as the St. Louis Cardinals edged the Washington Nationals 2-1, completing a three-game series sweep.
Wainwright went six innings, allowing a run on three hits while striking out seven to improve to 16 and 7.
Rick Ankiel put the Redbirds on the board with a sacrifice fly in the fourth.
Elijah Dukes tied the game for Washington with an RBI single in the top of the sixth before Albert Pujols put St. Louis up for good with an RBI single in the bottom of the sixth.
With the win, the Cardinals extend their NL Central lead to double-digits as they have a ten-game lead over the Cubs.
