(ST. LOUIS, MO) - The St. Louis Cardinals scored three runs in the first inning and held on to edge the Houston Astros 3-2.
Matt Holliday drove in the first run with an RBI single off Houston ace Roy Oswalt and Mark DeRosa followed with a 2-run double as the Redbirds jumped out to a 3-0 lead.
The Astros scored both of their runs in the fourth with Lance Berkman and Carlos Lee hitting run-scoring singles off St. Louis' Joel Pineiro.
Pineiro went eight innings, allowing seven hits to get the win and improve to 13 and 9.
Oswalt allowed ten hits over six innings and took the loss, dropping to 7 and 5.
With the win, the Cardinals maintain their nine-game lead over Chicago in the NL Central.
