(INDIANAPOLIS, IN) - Jorge Lorenzo took advantage of crashes by his closest competitors and cruised to victory in the second annual Red Bull Indianapolis GP at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.
Pole winner Dani Pedrosa, defending race champion Valentino Rossi and Lorenzo broke away from the rest of the motorcycles at the start of the race.
Pedrosa crashed while leading on lap four, with Rossi taking the point.
Pedrosa would continue on in the race but was out of contention from that point on.
Rossi and Lorenzo battled until Rossi crashed on lap ten and would retire from the race three laps later.
Lorenzo was by himself in the lead for the remainder of the 28-lap race, coming down the main straightaway with his front wheel high in the air as he took the checkered flag.
Lorenzo beat second-place finisher Alex De Angelis by almost 9 1/2 seconds.
Nicky Hayden of Owensboro, Kentucky, finished third.
