(CHICAGO, IL) - The Washington Nationals jumped out to a 5-0 lead off Chicago starter Randy Wells and held on for a 5-4 win over the Cubs.
The Nats scored three runs in the first on an RBI double from Cristian Guzman and a two-run homer from Ryan Zimmerman.
Guzman hit into a fielder's choice in the second to drive home a run before Adam Dunn hit a towering blast off wells in the third to give Washington their five-run lead.
The Cubs chipped back with a two-run homer from Aramis Ramirez in the third, a solo shot from Derrek Lee in the fifth and an RBI single from Ramirez in the seventh.
The Cubs missed an opportunity to gain ground on the Cardinals and remain nine games back in the NL Central.
