(CHICAGO, IL) - Pedro Martinez’ first start with Philadelphia was successful, Jeff Samardzija’s first start with Chicago was not as the Phillies pounded the Cubs 12-5.
Jimmy Rollins and Raul Ibanez hit three-run homers and Shane Victorino added a two-run shot in support of Martinez, who allowed three runs on seven hits over five innings in his first Major League appearance of the season.
Samardzija allowed seven runs on eight hits before being pulled with one out in the fourth.
Sean Marshall would give up the homers to Rollins and Ibanez later in the fourth as Philadelphia would score eight times in the inning.
Chicago has lost four games in a row.
