(NEW YORK, NY) - Julio Lugo and Skip Schumacher drove in runs in the ninth and Albert Pujols hit a solo homer and a grand slam as the St. Louis Cardinals came back to beat the New York Mets 12-7 in ten innings.
Pujols had not hit a home run since going deep twice against Arizona in the Cardinals' first game after the All-star break.
He broke the 15-game drought with a solo shot in the eighth off Mets starter Johan Santana to pull the Redbirds to within two runs at 7-5.
After tying the game in the ninth, Mark Derosa gave St. Louis the lead when he was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded and Pujols followed with his fifth grand slam of the season.
With the win, the cardinals remain in a virtual tie with Chicago atop the NL Central.
