(MILWAUKEE, WI) - Prince Fielder hit a two-run homer and Jody Gerut added a solo blast as the Milwaukee Brewers edged the Chicago Cubs 3-2 to avoid a three-game series sweep at home.
Fielder launched his 42nd home run of the year in the fourth off Cubs starter Jeff Samardzija. Samardzija cut the Milwaukee lead to one when he hit his first Major League homer in the sixth off Brewers starter Chris Narveson.
In the bottom of the sixth, Gerut hit his ninth of the season off Samardzija with what would prove to be the winning run.
Bobby Scales would add an RBI double for Chicago in the seventh.
Narveson gets the win to improve to 2 and 0 while Samardzija falls to 1 and 3.
