(MILWAUKEE, WI) - Matt Holliday hit a go-ahead two-run home run off Milwaukee closer Trevor Hoffman as the St. Louis Cardinals edged the Brewers 4-3.
Prince Fielder gave Milwaukee an early 2-0 lead in the first when he hit his 38th home run of the season, a two-run shot off Cardinals starter John Smoltz.
The score was 3-1 Brewers in the sixth when Albert Pujols launched his 45th of the year, a solo blast in the seventh to pull the Redbirds to within a run.
Hoffman, the all-time major league leader in saves, walked Pujols with one out in the ninth and Holliday followed with what proved to be the game-winning homer.
