(ST. LOUIS, MO) - Dan Uggla’s two-run homer in the top of the sixth inning was the difference as the Florida Marlins got past the St. Louis Cardinals 2-1.
Albert Pujols gave the Redbirds a 1-0 lead in the fifth when his sacrifice fly off Florida starter Sean West scored Rick Ankiel from third.
Uggla would launch his game-winner in the next half-inning as he hammered an Adam Wainwright pitch over the left field wall with Nick Johnson on first base.
West picked up the win, giving up a run on six hits while striking out nine in six innings of work to improve to 7 and 5.
Wainwright took the loss to fall to 18 and 8.
