(CONCORD, NC) - Jimmie Johnson took command of the chase for the Sprint Cup with his win at Lowe’s Motor Speedway late Saturday night.
Johnson holds a 90-point advantage over teammate Mark Martin at the Midway Point of the ten-race chase.
The three-time defending Sprint Cup champion gained an additional five points by leading a race-high 92 laps in cruising to the win by more than two seconds over second-place finisher Matt Kenseth.
The Hoosier contingent of Jeff Gordon and Tony Stewart are still in contention.
Gordon is third in points, 135 behind Johnson while Stewart is fourth, 155 points back.
South Bend's Ryan Newman is eighth in points and is 288 behind Johnson.
NASCAR races at Martinsville, Virginia this weekend.
