(KANSAS CITY, KS) - Tony Stewart jump-started his chances for a third Sprint Cup Championship with a win Sunday at Kansas Speedway.
Stewart gambled by taking just two tires during a late-race pit stop to capture the lead and beat Jeff Gordon to the finish line.
Greg Biffle was third with Juan Pablo Montoya and Denny Hamlin rounding out the top five.
Points leader Mark Martin finished seventh to extend his Sprint Cup points lead to 18 over Jimmie Johnson, who finished ninth.
Montoya is third, 51 points behind Martin while Stewart moved up fourth, 67 points behind.
Race number four in the ten-race chase for the Sprint Cup is this Sunday at Auto Club Speedway in Fontana, California.
