(PEKIN) - The Mitchell Lady Bluejackets traveled to Eastern High School for the season opener Tuesday night, and left Pekin with more questions than answers.
The Lady Jackets who are replacing four starters from last year's Patoka Lake Athletic Conference Championship team had trouble with ball handling and turnovers all night long.
A well executed full court press from Eastern forced Mitchell into 43 turnovers in the contest.
Eastern used the forced turnovers, and 9 points from Sophomore forward Jocelyn Mousty, to run to a 25 - 7 first quarter lead.
The Lady Jackets would never recover, and found themselves in foul trouble throughout the game.
Eastern used a balanced inside attack with Mousty and Junior forward Melissa Lewis to extend their lead to 36 - 16 at the half.
The second half saw more of the same as Mitchell, once again plagued by turnovers and fouls saw the deficit grow to 46 - 23 after the third quarter.
With players fouling out, and maybe looking for the right combination, coach Frank Decker went deep into his bench in fourth quarter.
The sloppy play continued on both ends, as more turnovers and multiple fouls were called on both ends of the floor. Eastern prevailed with a 58-33 victory over the Lady Jackets.
The Lady Musketeers were led in scoring by Lewis with 17 points and Mousty chipped in 13.
The Lady Jackets were led in scoring by Freshman Courtney Perkins and Sophomore Allison Trevithick who had 7 a piece.
The Lady Jackets travel to BNL Saturday for the annual county rivalry game, with varsity tip time scheduled for 7:30
