(UNATED) - In men’s college basketball, number seven Purdue opens its season tonight when the Boilermakers host Cal State Northridge.
The Boilers are coming off a 27-17 season in which they won the Big Ten tournament and advanced to the Sweet-16 of the NCAA tournament before bowing out against Connecticut.
The Matadors won their second-straight Big West regular season championship last year, but have had to replace five of their top six scorers from the 2008-2009 campaign.
The Indiana Hoosiers open their season tonight as they welcome the Howard Bison to Assembly Hall.
The Hoosiers went 6-25 last season, their first under Tom Crean.
Crean has brought in one of the top recruiting classes in the nation along with Georgetown transfer Jeremiah Rivers as he tries to bring IU back to the ranks of the nation's elite programs.
The Hoosiers have won 24-straight home openers and eleven-consecutive regular-season openers. The Bison went 8-23 last season.
The Ball State Cardinals and the Valparaiso Crusaders open their seasons tonight at Worthen Arena in Muncie.
The Cardinals went 14-17 last season, but managed to win the Mac west by going 7-9 in conference play to tie Central Michigan and Western Michigan.
The Crusaders struggled last season, finishing ninth in the horizon league with a 9-22 mark.
Tonight's game is the 58th time the Crusaders and the Cardinals will meet on the hardwood.
Ball State leads the all-time series 30-27.
The Indiana State Sycamores lift the lid on their regular season tonight when they face the Antelopes of Nebraska-Kearney at the Hulman Center.
Kevin McKenna begins his third season as the head coach as the Sycamores are coming off an 11-21 season.
The Antelopes compete in division two and went 11-15 last season.
