(NEW YORK, NY) - Greg Monroe scored a career-high 24 points and grabbed a career-best 15 rebounds to lead the 13th-ranked Georgetown Hoyas to a 72-65 win over number 20 Butler in game one of the Jimmy V Classic in New York.
Austin Freeman added 18 points as the Hoyas built a 17-point lead in the second half and survived a late 12-2 run by the Bulldogs.
Gordon Hayward led Butler with 24 points with Shelvin Mack finishing with twelve points and Zach Hahn adding eleven.
Matt Howard was in foul trouble most of the night, scoring nine points on 1-9 shooting from the field before fouling out.
Georgetown improves to 7-0 while Butler falls to 6-3.
The Bulldogs host Ohio State on Saturday afternoon.
