(LOS ANGELES, CA) - The Indiana Pacers open a four-game western road trip tonight in Los Angeles as they take on the defending NBA Champion Lakers.
The Pacers are 20-39 after snapping a three-game losing streak with a 100-90 win over the Chicago Bulls in Indianapolis on Saturday night.
The Lakers own the best record in the Western Conference at 45-15 and are coming off a Sunday afternoon win over the Denver Nuggets.
The Nuggets are the third team on this week's schedule for the Blue and Gold.
All four of the Pacers opponents on this trip are well above .500.
Adding to Indiana's difficulty is that they will play the four games over a five-night period.
They will face the Portland Trail Blazers on Wednesday before taking Thursday off.
The trip winds up with Friday night's game in Denver and a Saturday night contest with the Phoenix Suns.
The Pacers announced Monday afternoon that they have waived veteran guard Travis Diener and suspended forward Solomon Jones one game for conduct detrimental to the team.
Diener had played in just four games this season as he has been slowed by an injury to his left big toe that required surgery.
The fifth-year pro out of Marquette was signed by Indiana as a free agent in 2007 after spending his first two years in the NBA with the Orlando Magic.
In his three seasons with the Pacers, Diener played in 125 games, averaging 5.3 points and three assists per game.
Jones will serve his suspension tonight against the Lakers.
