(INDIANAPOLIS, IN) - The NCAA has placed IUPUI on probation for three years after finding major infractions involving 14 sports.
The NCAA says that the Jaguars allowed erroneous eligibility certification for 97 athletes, showing a lack of institutional control and a failure to monitor by the university.
Also, a former academic advisor was cited for unethical conduct for failing to cooperate with the investigation.
The violations occurred from the 2003-2004 school year through 2006-2007.
IUPUI will also be forced to vacate a number of wins during that period, including 18 victories by the men's basketball team in the 2003-2004 season.
A statement released by the university states that IUPUI is pleased that the NCAA enforcement staff and committee on infractions agreed with the results of the school's internal investigations and has accepted IUPUI's corrective actions and self-imposed sanctions.
The statement went on to say that no coaches, IUPUI Athletics Department staff or student athletes were responsible for or knowledgeable of any of the rules violations.
