Last updated on Monday, March 15, 2010

(SAU PAULO, BRAZIL) - Will Power won Sunday’s Izod IndyCar Series opener through the streets of Sao Paulo, Brazil.

Power overtook Ryan Hunter-Reay with three laps remaining in a race that was shortened to 61 laps due to rain.

The race was red-flagged for 36 minutes when a heavy downpour hit the track midway through the event.

The delay made the race a two-hour timed event which led to it falling 14 laps short of the 75-lap scheduled distance.

Vitor Meira finished third with Raphael Matos and Dan Wheldon rounding out the top five.

The race started with an accident that took out Marco Andretti and Mario Moraes.

The accident also involved a pair of pre-race favorites in Scott Dixon and Helio Castroneves.

Dixon would work his way back through the field to finish sixth while Castoneves would come in ninth.

The IndyCar Series teams will return to the United States for the March 28th Grand Prix of St. Petersburg in Florida.
