(BIRMINGHAM, AL) - Helio Castroneves made it three victories in a row for Team Penske with his win in Sunday’s Izod Indycar Series Grand Prix of Alabama.
Castroneves took the lead on lap 82 of the 90-lap road race when Marco Andretti had to dart into the pits for a splash-and-go stop for fuel.
The three-time Indianapolis 500 winner held off Scott Dixon at the end to get the win and snap teammate Will Power's two-race winning streak.
Dixon's Target-Ganassi racing teammate Dario Franchitti finished third followed by Power and Andretti.
For Castroneves, it was his first win on a road course since his victory at Infineon Raceway in Sonoma, California in August of 2008.
It also marked the tenth-consecutive season that the popular Brazilian has won a race in the Indycar Series.
Power maintains the points lead, but his margin is down to 32 over Castroneves.
The series heads west to California for next Sunday's Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach.
