(AMES, IA) - Former Indiana Pacers Guard Fred Hoiberg has a new job.
Hoiberg was named Wednesday to replace Greg McDermott as head coach at Iowa State.
McDermott left the Cyclones to become head coach at Creighton on Tuesday.
Hoiberg is a native of Ames, Iowa and starred for the Cyclones from 1991 to 1995.
He was drafted by the Pacers in 1995 and played in Indianapolis for four seasons before being signed as a free agent with the Chicago Bulls.
He finished his playing career with the Minnesota Timberwolves where he was forced to retire due to a heart condition in 2006.
He has spent the past four seasons as the Timberwolves' vice president of basketball operations.
In that job, Hoiberg was involved in scouting college players, but this will be his first head coaching job at any level.
He inherits a program that is coming off its fourth consecutive losing season.
