(INDIANAPOLIS, IN) - The NCAA’s Board Of Directors have approved a new 68-team format for the men’s basketball tournament to begin in the 2010-2011 season.
How the three additional teams will be included in the tournament has not been officially determined, but it is believed that there will now be four "opening round" games with the winners receiving number-16 seeds and advancing to face the four number-one seeds.
A final determination is expected to be made when the Men's Basketball Committee meets this summer.
It is the first expansion of the tournament since 2001 when the field went from 64 to 65 teams.
