(SAN FRANCISCO, CA) - Albert Pujols homered in the first inning and Brad Penny and the St. Louis bullpen made it hold up as the Cardinals blanked the San Francisco Giants 2-0 to avoid a three-game series sweep.
Pujols' shot off Giants starter Matt Cain was his seventh of the season. Yadier Molina added a sacrifice fly in the fourth to cap the scoring.
Penny would go seven and two-thirds innings, allowing eight hits to improve to 3-0.
Jason Motte and Ryan Franklin would go the rest of the way with Franklin picking up his sixth save.
Cain took the loss to drop to 0-1.
