(PHOENIX, AZ) - Colby Rasmus hit two home runs, including a go-ahead solo shot in St. Louis’ five-run top of the ninth as the Cardinals beat the Arizona Diamondbacks 9-4.
Skip Schumaker added to the final margin by slamming a three-run shot off Bobby Howry in the ninth.
Chris Carpenter pitched seven strong innings for the Cardinals, but did not figure in the decision as Trevor Miller could not hold the lead in the eighth, surrendering two runs.
Jason Motte would get the Redbirds out of the eighth and ended up collecting his first win of the season.
Chad Qualls took the loss for Arizona.
