(ST. LOUIS, MO) - Adam Wainwright gave the St. Louis Cardinals what they needed most, a complete game in the aftermath of Saturday’s 20-inning marathon with New York.
The Redbirds used the home run late to get past the Mets 5-3 on Sunday night.
New York jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the second on a two-run single by Angel Pagan and a throwing error by Wainwright that allowed Gary Matthews Jr. to score.
Colby Rasumus tied the game in the fifth with a three-run homer off Mets starter John Maine.
Ryan Ludwick would slam a two-run shot off of Ryota Igarashi in the eighth to give St. Louis the win.
Wainwright allowed two earned runs on four hits, striking out nine to improve to 3-0 on the season.
