(ST. LOUIS, MO) - Adam Wainwright pitched eight shutout innings and Albert Pujols went deep again as the St. Louis Cardinals blanked the Houston Astros 5-0 in the home opener at Busch Stadium.
Pujols put the Redbirds on the board with an RBI single in the first and followed that up with a three-run blast off Houston Starter Wandy Rodriguez in the third.
Pujols leads the majors with 14 runs batted in and is tied for the major league lead with five home runs.
Ryan Ludwick went 4-for-4 and had an RBI triple as Wainwright cruised from there, allowing six hits and a walk while striking out seven over eight innings to improve to 2-0.
Rodriguez took the loss to fall to 0-2 as Houston remains the lone winless team in the majors at 0-7.
