Ruiz's Walkoff Home Run Ends Cardinals Winning Streak

Last updated on Wednesday, May 5, 2010

(PHILADELPHIA, PA) - Carlos Ruiz led off the bottom of the tenth inning with a solo home run to give the Philadelphia Phillies a 2-1 victory over the St. Louis Cardinals.

The game was a pitchers' duel between Philadelphia's Cole Hamels and St. Louis' Adam Wainwright.

It was scoreless until the seventh when Ruiz drove home Raul Ibanez with a sacrifice fly.

The Redbirds tied the game in the top of the ninth on an RBI double by Yadier Molina.

Ruiz became the hero when he took the fourth pitch from Cardinals reliever Blake Hawksworth over the wall in left field to give the Phillies the win.

St. Louis saw its three-game winning streak come to an end.
