(INDIANAPOLIS, IN) - The Indianapolis Motor Speedway opens for practice on Saturday.
The track activity has been condensed from three weeks to two as drivers will have one week of practice to get ready for next weekend's time trials.
There will be just the one weekend of qualifying with pole day culminating in a new nine-car "shootout".
The number of first-day qualifiers will be limited to 24 with the remaining nine spots being filled on bump day, Sunday, May 23rd.
The Indianapolis 500 will take place on May 30th. Helio Castroneves is the defending 500 winner.
