(SONOMA, CA) - Jimmie Johnson picked up his first sprint cup series win on a road course, taking Sunday’s NASCAR event at Infineon Raceway in Sonoma, California.
Johnson took advantage of a mistake by Marcos Ambrose during a late caution when Ambrose apparently killed his engine while leading the race.
Ambrose fell back to seventh place before getting his engine re-fired while giving Johnson the lead.
Robbie Gordon held off Kevin Harvick for second place with Kasey Kahne and Jeff Gordon rounding out the top five.
Ambrose would finish sixth. Harvick maintains the Sprint Cup points lead by 140 over Johnson.
