(ST. LOUIS, MO) - The St. Louis Cardinals salvaged a win in their series with Houston, defeating the Astros 8-4.
Albert Pujols hit a three-run homer, his 27th of the season, in support of Chris Carpenter.
Carpenter allowed two runs on four hits over seven and a third innings of work to improve to 12-3.
Chris Johnson hit a two-run homer for the Astros, who had their seven-game winning streak ended.
With the win, the Cardinals remain a half-game behind Cincinnati in the NL Central.
