(DETROIT, MI) - The Chicago White Sox split a doubleheader with the Detroit Tigers, winning the opener 12-2 before falling in the nightcap 7-1.
Mark Buehrle pitched into the eighth inning of game one to pick up his tenth win of the season.
He was supported by solo homers from Juan Pierre, Alex Rios and Dayan Viciedo.
Pierre's homer was his first since September of 2008. Johnny Damon and rookie Brennan Boesch drove in two runs apiece for Detroit in game two as the Tigers snapped a three-game losing streak.
Despite the split, the Sox gained a half-game on second-place Minnesota in the AL Central as the Twins lost at Tampa Bay.
Chicago's lead is now a game and a half.
