(CINCINNATI, OH) - The Cincinnati Reds have given outfielder Jay Bruce a six-year, 51 million dollar contract extension.
The 23-year-old left fielder is coming off his finest season, batting .281 with 25 home runs and 70 runs batted in.
General manager Walt Jocketty says now that Bruce is in the fold long-term, he will work on an extension for National League MVP Joey Votto.
Votto is eligible for arbitration this year and his contract runs through the 2013 season.
Jocketty is looking to lock up the young nucleus of a team that won the NL Central last season for the first time since 1995.
