(SOUTH BEND, IN) - Notre Dame junior quarterback Nate Montana is transferring to the University of Montana.
Montana played in three games with the Fighting Irish this season, completing nine of 18 passes for 116 yards with an interception.
He is the son of Pro Football Hall-of-Famer and Notre Dame great Joe Montana.
The younger Montana would have been buried on the Irish depth chart as Dayne Crist returns from a knee injury to play his senior season.
After Crist went down, freshman Tommy Rees started the final four games.
Since Montana is transferring to an FCS school, he is eligible to play immediately.
